In Loving Memory

Walter Nash

January 1, 1975 – August 15, 2026

For fifty-one years, Walt Nash showed the world what it looks like to live with quiet purpose. Born in Kansas City, Missouri on January 1, 1975, he made his home just across the state line in Kansas City, Kansas, where he built a life defined by service, dedication, and an open heart that never seemed to run out of room for others.

Walt answered his country's call through service in the United States Army before returning home to pursue his education at UMKC, a path that would lead him to one of the most meaningful chapters of his life — a career in the classroom. As a schoolteacher, he shaped young minds with the same patience and generosity that defined everything he did. His students didn't just learn their lessons; they learned what it meant to be cared for by someone who genuinely believed in them.

Even in retirement, Walt couldn't quite sit still. The last four years of his life found him volunteering regularly at homeless shelters in Kansas City, showing up week after week with the kind of steady, no-fanfare commitment that spoke louder than any words could. He was the sort of man who didn't talk about doing good — he simply did it. His involvement with the Rotary Club of Kansas City reflected that same spirit of community and fellowship that ran through everything he touched.

When he wasn't giving his time to others, Walt could often be found out on the trails, mountain biking with the same energy and enthusiasm he brought to the rest of his life. He worked hard, played hard, and loved deeply.

Walt is survived by his beloved wife, Tina, and their son, Mikey, who were the great joys of his life and the heart of his home. He was preceded in death by his parents, who no doubt shaped the remarkable man he became.

Those who knew Walt — really knew him — understood that his kindness wasn't something he turned on for special occasions. It was simply who he was, every single day. He will be deeply missed and long remembered.
